People nowadays compete to get much money, powers and big names. The parents compete to get the best education for their kids, to build up their bright future. They sent their kids (litterally or not) to work at big cities or even another country, hoping that someday they will get a great job and return with a ton box full of money. People said the more money you can make, the more respect you get. they are right, the reason of the exsistence of education is to rise the level, the level of human being. but people misunderstand it, the level that they always talking about is supposed to be not your own level in your society, but the level of your own society, neighbourhood, and even your own country. What the meaning of being educated if it's only to get money for your own? what kind of respect you will get after being one?
After graduate, people busy to get a job for making money, and often get a job that has no connection with their diploma. They left their home behind to other places to make their own life. But from Swades i got to rethink, what educated people should do. People nowadays mock their home, their neighbourhood, their country for all the lacks. But why they never do something to make it better? why they have to choose to move instead? they have garduated from their university, is it the right time to apply everything that they have got to rebuild their own homeland? their own country even give many scholarship to help them to get good education, but most of them betrayed, forget whose money they had used before.
like the example in Swades, engineers making machines in big corporation, move in to developed country, make much money, live with respect and happiness... by themselves, and left their homeland behind. They forget that in their homeland they never do something meaningful. Forget where were they born, where was the earth that their parents had lived, and what blood that flow in their veins.
In this movie, the main character (Shah rukh khan) was an engineer who worked in Nasa, he even planed to change his nationality as an Indian people to American. But one day while finding his relatives in India, he acidentally been pushed to help out all the problems in a small village. Beside the lack of electicity, they had so many problems that started to occur because of they were uneducated. Eventually, he helped them with his knowledges and made the village became better than before.
Every respect, smile, and happiness that he had made to his own people made him realized that his own people, his own country need him more. who will help them if it's not their own family?
i remember one sentence:
"when vines has reached their neighboring house, their own home get destroyed"
Imagine it, if one person can make a change, what a bunch of educated people can do? and if every place have that bunch of people, they can rebuild their own country to be the kind of place that they want to live in. Rethink again..
