The Smoking Dilemma in Indonesia

Smoking, one of Indonesia’s Biggest problems, a literally inexhaustible matter to be discussed, a dilemma that shadowing our life. Why does smoking always be something controverted? What does the benefit of smoking? Lets talk about this from its each point of view, whether the positive one or the negative one.

Firstly, let me explain about the negative side of smoking. Smoking is known as one of the causes of chronic diseases. Smoking has killed more people than the combination of other diseases such as AIDS, malnutrition, drugs, car accidents, suicide, alcohol, violence, and wildfire. Cigarette contains thousand of harmful ingredient like Tar, Nicotine, Carbon Monoxide (CO), and 7.000 chemical ingredient. Can you imagine it when all those poisons go through our body and settle inside for years?! It can cause lungs cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and many more. And hardly believe, all risks above will not only be obtained by the active smokers but also the passive smokers. 

Now guess it, how many people in Indonesia are smokers? A health expert, Prof dr Tjandra Yoga Aditama said there are 57.750.592 active smokers (link here). If one smoker smokes in public area and creats at least five passive smokers, how many people will be dying from the diseases? how many innocent people will be their victim? Ironically, most of the smokers are poor people. For them, cigarette takes the second place of their life priority after rice. They do sacrifice everything just for a box of cigarette, unpardonable sin!

Believe it or not,  the active smokers is also dominated by the youngsters. Global Youth Tobacco survey (GYTS) declared that Indonesia got the highest number of younger smokers in the world. In my neighborhood, many under age kids can smoke freely.  It seems like there's no age restriction, They can buy it in every store, and confidently smoke in public area without any worry.

Do you still remember how Indonesia’s ever been a hot issue when a six years old kid named Dihan Muhammad highlighted as the addicted consumer of this harmful thing? Awfully, at that time Indonesia stunned the world by this scandal (Link here). I couldn't believe, how did he know about smoking in such young age? When the other kids around his age were busy playing, this kid acted like an adult, prefer to stay at home, busy with his cigarette. And the worst thing was his parents couldn't stop him! i watched the video before, his dad was smoking 'together' with him. Right at that point, i realized, his environment was the one that can be blamed.

By all those negative sides of smoking, everyone hopes this problem can be solved, and most people want all the cigarette factories can be closed.

I think it’s enough to talk about the negative sides of smoking, now lets move to the opposite, the positive sides of smoking that has been told by some people.

Deal with Foreigner

Indonesia is such a beautiful country. We got many great destinations to travel in such as Bali, Yogyakarta, Raja Ampat, Bunaken, Komodo Island, etc. But not just the places, Indonesia is well known for the food and the people as well. Every year Indonesia attracts many tourists to come, for example in 2015 there were more than 10 thousand people came to enjoy all of the beauty of Indonesia.

Indonesian is known as friendly people, not just to the fellow citizens, but they are extremely admired towards foreigners. They treat them as SUPERIOR. Trust me, whenever Indonesian see foreigners around them, they will be calling them admirebly and even taking picture with them as they are taking it with celebrities. I didn’t say that being friendly is a bad thing, but doing it too much is unjustified.

Look how happy they were, i bet your eyes will get distracted by the woman on the left side, i thought she didn’t realize what she’s holding, but if you take a closer look, i think she’s doing it in purpose.

People nowadays compete to get much money, powers and big names. The parents compete to get the best education for their kids, to build up their bright future. They sent their kids (litterally or not) to work at big cities or even another country, hoping that someday they will get a great job and return with a ton box full of money. People said the more money you can make, the more respect you get. they are right, the reason of the exsistence of education is to rise the level, the level of human being. but people misunderstand it, the level that they always talking about is supposed to be not your own level in your society, but the level of your own society, neighbourhood, and even your own country. What the meaning of being educated if it's only to get money for your own? what kind of respect you will get after being one?

Review - Cara Gaul Kuasai Grammar inggris by Yusup Priyasudiarja

first, i want to tell about my experiences in learning english, so my review will give big points why am i so in love with this book.

i was struggling to study english for years, i had taken many courses before but the progress just too little. When i was in the third year of my high school life, i took a holiday course for a month at an english course in PU alley Bandar Lampung, but sadly i forget the name. it was kind of good english course, but i didn't continue to the regular class because i decided to take the regular one at Lia Lampung (at that time i took an english for adult class). My first class was second elementary, and i stayed till first Intermediate. but i had no great progress there, so i stoped (beside i was going to my university in Palembang). When i was in college, i took an english conversation class in Lia Palembang (all i knew about good english course just Lia). Just like before, my first class was second elementary, but didn't stay long untill the third one. my reasons were the place just too far from my dorm (Indralaya) and i didn't satisfied with the result. at that time i was still confuse how to comunicate in english, didn't know how to make a sentence in proper grammar etc.
